Gully Boy" is a critically acclaimed Indian movie released in 2019. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, the film is inspired by the lives of real-life Mumbai-based street rappers, Naezy and Divine. It tells the story of a young man named Murad Ahmed, played by Ranveer Singh, who hails from the slums of Dharavi, Mumbai.

Murad dreams of becoming a rapper but faces numerous obstacles, including his conservative family, financial struggles, and societal expectations. Despite these challenges, Murad finds solace and an outlet for his emotions through his poetry and rap music. Murad's life takes a significant turn when he meets Shweta "Safeena" Basu, played by Alia Bhatt, a medical student and his long-time love interest. Safeena is a strong-willed and supportive girlfriend who encourages Murad to pursue his passion for music. She stands by him as he navigates the world of rap battles and competitions.

As Murad's talent gains recognition, he crosses paths with MC Sher, played by Siddhant Chaturvedi, an established rapper who becomes his mentor and guide. MC Sher introduces Murad to the underground rap scene, where he gets the opportunity to showcase his skills and voice the struggles of his community.

"Gully Boy" explores themes of social inequality, identity, dreams, and self-expression. The film highlights the power of art in bringing about change and provides a glimpse into the lives of individuals striving to break free from their circumstances and pursue their passions.

The movie received widespread acclaim for its authentic portrayal of Mumbai's hip-hop culture and the performances of its cast. It became a commercial success and was selected as India's official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 92nd Academy Awards.
