Airlift" is a Bollywood movie released in 2016, directed by Raja Krishna Menon. It is based on a true story that took place during the Gulf War in 1990.
The film revolves around the life of Ranjit Katiyal (played by Akshay Kumar), a successful Indian businessman residing in Kuwait with his wife and daughter. They live a comfortable and affluent life until August 2, 1990, when Iraqi forces invade Kuwait, leading to the occupation of the country.
Amidst the chaos and panic caused by the invasion, Ranjit finds himself responsible for the safety and well-being of thousands of Indian expatriates stranded in Kuwait. Facing numerous challenges, including limited resources, bureaucratic hurdles, and threats from Iraqi forces, Ranjit initiates a massive operation to evacuate Indian nationals from Kuwait. He manages to organize the largest civilian evacuation in history, involving over 170,000 Indians.
The story highlights the bravery, resilience, and determination of Ranjit and his team as they navigate through perilous situations to bring their fellow citizens back home.
